Hi Shena,
If I'm there I'll be free to have a hack at it. Will just be fitting an exhaust so shouldn't be long (famous last words). If the bolts done fit we can retry with new ones on Sunday at the tyre kick.

I can help, Shena.
Before that, I was planning to just swan around, mix the Aldi and the 'real' Jaffas up to see if anyone would notice, and watch an exhaust be fitted.

Scaffolding is a go. Also bringing a fuel filter and cam cover gaskets, hoping to solve a minor oil leak

Hi Shena, Just read your concerns over style bar. I wouldn't be too bothered - the chap that cut mine to size was of the opinion that someone had worked on it before and done a bad job, which raised the height of the curve, but having taken 1/2 and inch off all is fine. I would guess that mine came originally from the U.S. and we know, you should in particular, how they love things big in the states. Bring it along and, between half-a-dozen mechanics of differing levels of competence, someone should have the know-how to fit it for you. Tom

gearbox and diff oil....
Thinking of trying to change these on Sat.
Type and quantity of both - any suggestions. Will have to be something available in motor factors or good ole Halfords... And if someone has the Halfords trade card, maybe worth waiting til Saturday to pick some up?
Thanks
John

Steve I think the tyre kick is in March!
Guys I appreciate the offers of help and Tom, thanks for your words of reassurance. I will bring it along, sure if nothing gets done I can help Frank rearrange the Jaffa cakes. But I'm keen to have a go myself so I'm hoping I will drag my American with me for muscle and we'll see if we can't manage it with a bit of guidance.
See ya there.

Tom did you have the temp gauge installed?? It actually doesn't look like it would fit snug anywhere.

Hi Ann,
I have put it in the car and it works but you couldn't say its fitted. Need to decide where it should go and I'll use a strong double-sided tape that I have.

Hi franksm I see you are bringing a cam cover gasket. Where did you get it. I have my cover off at the moment and have been back twice to the motor factor as first time the gasket had the single arched seal on the wrong side ( right not left) second one was too high ie would not sit in groove at either end about 1/2" proud. They are getting another tomorrow, dont have much hope though. Its a 93 1.6 eunos. Any ideas. If I dont get it I wont be there on Saturday. Bren

Hi Bren
Sorry, those camcovers aren't for an MX5.
The only place you can get them from quickly is MX5parts. Doubt you would get one before Tuesday though at this rate. Does yours leak oil ? If so, might do no harm to pop it off, clean it up, and just pit it back on with a bit of silicon. Perhaps it was last put on without the dabs of silicon it does need.
Failing that, maybe someone here has a spare gasket ?
Frank

Bren, I have a spare cam cover gasket if you wish. Bought one from MX5parts then had to replace timing belt and got one with the kit. Will be there on Saturday if you want it.
