Midlands Run The Pics

Postby Paschal » Sun, 19 Jul 2009 6:48 +0000

Eight brave souls turned up for the Midlands Run, in what started out in lovely weather but ended up quite wet. Thanks a million to the Killaloe crew who brought along 5 cars, PJ from Galway and Tom from Cashel. A quick run out to Kilbeggan, onto the M6 and back through Clara and back into O Connor Square for a tyre kick. Lunch in the Wolftrap followed by a run to Clonaslee, across the Sliabh Blooms, into Kinnitty Village and on to Birr and a quick coffee (and a dessert for one!!!) in The Thatch in Crinkle.

Mike might owe Offaly Co Co for some signage, but I will let him explain that himself! Lots of standing water (and dropping water) made things tricky, to say the least.

All in all a nice day out, making new friends and looking forward to a run on the banks of Lough Derg in Killaloe.

Had you the parking in the square booked? Conveniently straight across the road from the Brewery Tap I see ;-)

Big thanks to Paschal for a great day out.... that is... until the rain set in, aqua-planing took over and midlife tried to take a short-cut to the scrap-heap. Luck rather than judgement took over (and a grim determination not to have to walk home) giving me an opportunity to try multiple opposite-locks, an encounter (rear offside quarter) with a large forest sign, and a final pirouette for dramatic effect. Luck also intervened to have a large camper van move away from my elected stopping point just seconds before I arrived. My thanks also to Offally CoCo for putting soft-ish signs in place :), and to my audience, who to varying degrees wondered what I was at (my next trick?) and/or experienced mild cardiac issues.

Also big thanks to the Killaloe/Clonlara sub-committee for coming along. Hope ye all enjoyed the day & will consider coming along on other outings in the future.

I checked the sign and it was alright...thank God!

As a novice to these runs, my OH and I thought Midlife was showing off ..honestly I was well impressed with all the moves until I could see the sign shake as I drove past!

Made me think about doing an advanced driving course.

We'll def be there for other runs, great laugh, great company and wow eventful.
