Hi All,
At the outset, I must declare an interest, see other thread, but here goes:
For five day's in June (9th. to 13th.) Special Olympics Ireland will hold the 2010 National Games in Limerick. This is a major event with 1,900 athletes competing in 15 sports and requires 3,500 volunteer's to help organise and run the event. As this is such a major undertaking it takes a lot or money to run and sponsorship alone is not enough with local and nationally organised fund-raising events also required. Therefore, I am hoping that the good people on this forum might consider a MAJOR fund-raising run with the proceeds going to SOI. As well as helping SOI, such a run would also help the profile of MX5 Ireland and the good people that make up this community.
I trust no-one minds my making this suggestion and hopefully I might see some positive feedback and ideas.
Tom

I'm up for a fund raising run .. As it's a national thing has anyone considered an all Ireland road trip? Perhaps in relays?
I'd be up for any sort of fund raiser ..

Thanks for the positive response. I would hope that this could mushroom into the biggest ever run, relay or otherwise and if we could decide on the type of run and a date I could start to get to work on the publicity.
All other suggestions for the melting pot greatly received.
If anyone wishes to volunteer to help at the games, please see Run & Tech thread for details.

Walk where Teena? Hoping for a bit more of a response for a run to raise funds for SOI. Any others interested? Please give me some idea if this is a runner. If not, no harm done. Tom

Deffo Tom, count me in. Site is quiet at present, keep it on the agenda and I am sure there will be an excellent response. Don't complicate it too much, what about Dublin-Galway-Limerick-Dublin, all on the one day. People could pick it up anywhere along the route and still drive the full loop. That way you can catch the Dubs, Midlanders, West and South West etc etc. April/May is generally a good time before holidays kick in. Paschal

Hi Pascal,
Thanks for that. That's the kind of thing I had in mind and the loop you've mentioned sounds very good and around end of April begining of May would be a good time to have it. So I'll take your advice, keep it on the agenda and keep plugging it.

Tom, this project is gonna require a co-ordinator of some sort before long. I'm not offering at this stage as I have a number of other projects on at the moment and won't really be in a position to do so until a week or two after Easter, which is probably too late.
A road trip type fundraiser, limited options to get money from the public, we could consider a car-push (if that's not suggesting that mx5's are unreliable) where the public can be approached as we go through a town etc...similar to duck-pushes etc. Anyone got a spare mx5 with no engine in??
A car push would be easily sellable to the media..Gery Ryan show etc., with regular updates, hosting in different towns by local SOI branches .. maybe have mazda get behind us with stop-off points at dealerships??....just throwing out the idea for discussion.
John
