Anyone interested in 'doing' the Jazz Festival in Cork this year ? We haven't been to it for a while now.

22nd to 26th October

The line-up hasn't been announced yet, but should be published soon as they have reach their quota for applications.

I know it's a long long way away but I'd be up for this. Its been far too long since I've been down there for the festival.

I know accommodation runs out quickly so maybe we should get some hotel prices?

Aidan as you are a local, any thoughts?

Hey all .. and Frank I really meant to hook up with you about this over the weekend! I am an idiot!!

Went to Cork the weekend before this for a brief break. Fell in love with the city all over again.

Am thinking we make this a 4 dayer ..

Run down on the Friday, out to catch some sounds that night.
Saturday, run up to Blarney and north/westish Cork, back for some more sounds that night.
Sunday, out to the West, Bantry etc. and then back to Cork for still more sounds .. before a long breakie on Monday, lunch time gig and home on Monday.

Line up has to be up soon ???

I stayed in the Met the weekend before last. They are doing a 3 night b&b of 239 pps

Its gorgeous, very chilled, residents bar, and they would be interested in a group deal if we get enough numbers .. slightly ( 2 buildings away) off site parking for €7.50/night .. which I'm sure I could get them to throw in.

Or does anyone know of a city house we could rent out? Me, I fancy a hotel but as Steve says, meh!

methinks this could be a long hot summer ..

Hi Shena

I booked the Travelodge on the Airport road - it's just a couple of miles outside of Cork city centre, we have used it in the past and it's handy. Currently eur70 per room.

http://www.travelodge.co.uk/search_and_ ... tel_id=226

I can't get down on Friday so have booked Saturday and Sunday, returning Monday.

Sorry Shena and all for not getting back on this.

================ HOTELS IN THE CENTRE ========================

If you wish to be in the centre of things, right on McCurtain St opposite the Metropole Htl Festival club:

http://www.isaacs.ie/isaacs-cork-hotel/home.aspx

Not too far away down the quays and very near the bus station is:

http://corkhotels.jurysinns.com/

For a bit of luxury:

http://www.clarionhotelcorkcity.com/ - YUMMIE

Quality INN very near centre ( near the famous Shandon ) plus near town centre walk wise ( 5 mins ):

http://www.maldronhotels.com/hotel-cork/

On PATRICK ST itself ( the main drag ):

http://www.thevictoriahotel.com/

FOR THE HOTELS ABOVE THIS GOOGLE MAP SHOWS THERE LOCATION - ALL AROUND THE CENTRE: ( Hide that Panel on left )

http://maps.google.ie/maps?hl=en&safe=o ... 13368&z=17

========================================================

=================== HOTELS A BIT OUT ========================

A little out but about 10 mins walk to centre:

http://www.doylecollection.com/location ... hotel.aspx - YUMMIE

Out a bit on the right side of the river where McCurtain ST is:

http://www.moranhotels.com/silver-springs-moran-hotel/ - YUMMIE

If you drive out McCurtain ST, go past the railway Station, drive on for about 10 mins or less you arrive At Silver Springs. Keep on driving about 5 mins and you reach the jack lynch tunnel plus the start of Dublin Rd / Motorway.

=======================================================

====================== GUEST HOUSE / HOSTELS ===========

Where Guest House are concerned - look up THE WESTERN ROAD AREA. Loads of them there. About 10/15 mins walk from centre:

http://www.cork-guide.ie/bed_and_breakfasts.html

Scroll down to CORK CITY.

And as hostels go:

http://www.kinlayhousecork.ie/ - 5 mins walk to centre ( near Maldron )
http://www.bruhostel.com/ ( right on McCurtain ST )
http://www.sheilashostel.ie/newsite/ ( above McCurtain ST )

==========================================================

Where the hotels are concerned above I have stuck to the city centre. The Western Rd is near enough for Guest houses.

The centre of activity is MCCURTAIN STREET where the Metropole Htl is the Festival club.

The Travel lodge IS A bit out. Its on whats called the LINK ( ring road around city ). At a main roundabout - Kinsale Roundabout. IT IS not to far from Douglas where their are a good few bars with Jazz. PLUS it is at the beginning of the AIRPORT RD which takes you to KINSALE ( about 20 min drive ). Kinsale has a fringe / Alt Jazz fest.

=== CORK is know as the Independent Republic of Cork :D - Well, within Cork their is another - The INDEPENDENT Republic of DOUGLAS :D ====

3 Hotels in DOUGLAS:

http://www.maryborough.com/ - YUMMIE
http://www.rochestownpark.com/ - YUMMIE
http://www.eastvillage.ie/welcome.html

Loads of Jazz Pubs, Restaurants. Buses to city centre. All these hotels near to the LINK / SOUTH RING RD.

Seems to have alot of accommodation listings in Cork City:

http://www.corktourist.com/directory/accommodation/

Here is a Google Map snap shot: ( Hide that Panel on left, more screen )

http://maps.google.com/maps?key=ABQIAAA ... 53473&z=15

Locate MacCurtain St. This is Jazz Central. Below it is PATRICKS ST, the main st. If you follow MacCurtain St, then the Lower Glanmire Rd ALL THE WAY to the right you will see Silver Springs on the way, keep going past LOTA to NORTH ESK ( this is actually called the DUNKETTLE INTERCHANGE ). The "North Esk" is the main roundabout coming off the Dublin rd. Go south under the river ( Jack Lynch Tunnel ), follow what we call the LINK ( the big green road on the map ) known also as SOUTH RING RD. It veers left, keep following it and you will reach THE KINSALE ROUNDABOUT. This is where the Travel Lodge is.

As an aside - when you view the map at the NORTH ESK / Dunkettle Interchange / Jack lynch Tunnel - ZOOM OUT a bit and drag the map UP ( you are going toward the south coast - the sea. You will see CARRIGALINE. That is where I am.

TO GET REVIEWS OF STAYS IN ALL THE HOTELS ABOVE GO HERE AND SEARCH:

http://www.tripadvisor.ie/

As always - remember alot of people who leave reviews are those with BAD EXPERIENCES. People who have good experiences tend not leave as many reviews as those who have had bad experiences. This kind of skews these kind of sites. BUT good for a general idea anyway!

Im afraid, being from Cork, I havent had need to stay in any of this accommodation :D - I threw in a few YUMMIES - but thats from having played with my band in them AND having attended events at same!

I will think some more and post here

Hi, guys and gals,
Is there many members going to the Cork Jazz Festival???
We are going but we are trying to figure which car to take.
We will take the 5 if there is a few going.
Or if no one going we will take the diesel estate.
Warm Regards,
Hazel
