Any car brought into Ireland new or used after july will be subject to the co2 rates.

An old mx 1990 up to 1995 or 1996 does not have c02 rate therefore it will be on the highest rate, as all old cars will be.


I guess they mean if the car was registered in Japan in Aug '08 and you imported it in Oct '08 ...
I was under the impression that it won't apply to older cars?

I was talking to a dealer who brings in Evos and the like, he reckons it's all over now. they will be on the 2,000tax rate

Sorry to get back on subject :lol: but ollie, ollie eile will be up for a run in august. At the moment, i am cool for any weekend (never look that far ahead) so when you have a date in mind let me know and i will confirm my availablility (or not!)

Last post from me off the topic sorry ollie. Ivan check the website link i posted. It is saying (and this is the citezen advice) that if the car say has been previously registered abroad before january 2008 then it will be taxed in the same way all the cars registered here are ie by engine size. Maybe the dealer you were talking to was trying to scare you into buying a car now before the changes?
