I had a look under the dash today, the cold air is coming from where the red arrow is, should those two units be joined together? The seem to be the same size, I can't find anything loose that is causing the problem. It's almost as cold as when the air con is on!

yes.. you are missing the clip between the blower and the aircon evaporator.
Give them a wipe to remove dust and gaffer tape them till you find one (any car being dismantled).

think you should still have had hot air going across that pipe despite the leak.

I am wondering if you have an air lock or blockage in the heater matrix under the dash there ? the two pipes from the engine go into either end of the matrix.

hope it's not your problem as to change the matrix means removing the whole dash !!

There would be some alright but you'd be suprised how much air you'd loose as its kinda pressurised up against the heater matrix.. (and the aircon evaporator in his case.. ), I know this as I ended up buying a mazda non-aircon pipe. After fitting it I realised my gaffer tape + coke bottle job was crap.

Re removing the dash, not so anymore apparently as somebody realised that if you cut the "in" copper pipe on the engine side of the firewall you can wiggle it out sideways from the passenger side of the dash. Then when replaced you can use a bit of hose and 2 clamps to connect up again. I'll post a link if I can find it.

Found it :
This is the side of the matrix, see one pipe has a rubber tube and the other doesn't ? You cut the one that doesn't. Then cut your new matrix in the same way with a plumbers pipe cutter and refit so that both use rubber tubes (why they didn't do this in the first place.. ?)

I'm a little lost, can someone remove their glove box and take a pic so I know exactly what it looks like?

It's not terribly urgent as I haven't had much chance to drive the 5 recently, we've had two new additions just before Christmas...

Thanks

Graham, I reckon for the mo' you should remove glovebox, apply duct/duck/gaffer tape, reassemble.
