pioneer head unit

Postby john1 » Thu, 25 Apr 2013 12:27 +0000

I have a 1999 Eunos 1.6, I need to change the original pioneer radio, cassette, cd unit, the cd does not work and the expander thing for the radio is not good. I went to Halfords (who were very helpful) and they tell me I have a amp or booster system which works with the pioneer system, I thought I just needed a new radio/cd, harness from car to new system and the plastic unit to house it in, how wrong could I be. Anybody done this with the pioneer system and MK2 EUNOS before.

the advice halfords have given you is not good

only the imports with the bose sound system had the amps to power the headunit, which can easily be removed. search for miata bosectomy on google

Any pioneer stereo can be swapped out for a uk one,

the chances are they seen the radio band expander and thought it was an amp ... all you need is a mazda to iso lead and go and buy a cd player you like.

You can connect your new radio in to the eunos Bose amp no problem. I have a mk2 eunos roadster that had jap bose double din and replaced it with a new jvc double din head unit and connected it into the existing Bose amp.
All you need is wiring harness from mx5parts and to power up the amp separately. There is one wire on the amp that powers it and this needs to be connected outside the harness, can't remember the colour now but I read it on the web somewhere. Works a dream and simple to do believe me.

Thank you all for the help, but I am a bit confused now, are you saying the double din pioneer system in my car is the same as the Bose system, or how do I find out if it has this amp/booster system, or as suggested, I just need the Mazda to ISO harness and buy any radio/cd unit and that's that. I just want to make sure I buy the correct bits first time round before I go snipping and splicing. Thanks again.

the usual and quickest way to tell is to look at your doorcards

cars fitted with the bose sound system has a bose badge on the door speaker grills also had a bose branded headunit.

the pioneer stereo can safely be removed and a uk unit fitted.

the only stereo system that will need a bit of a work around is the factory BOSE system - they use funny door speakers - all plastic black efforts

The headunit is pioneer double din unit, which I believe is original, no mention of Bose anywhere on the door cards, the door cards have one large speaker and a small tweeter speaker, it all looks factory original speaker grills with no branding.

all you need is an iso lead and depending on the new radio you get , maybe a under radio cubby box
