Fitting a steering wheel

Postby paulie1981 » Wed, 19 Aug 2009 11:41 +0000

Hi all,

I bought a second hand wheel for the 5 on ebay last week (see attached) and am wondering what is needed to fit it.

My car as some of you know is a 97 Irish base spec Mk1 so it had that awful plastic wheel (replaced by previous owner with tiny sporty thing which obtruct view of the clocks).

I still have the original wheel. Will the Momo item fit straight on because it was a Mazda part?

I had it delivered to an NI address for speed so won't have it til the weekend.

Thanks for your help!!

Paul

Hi Paulie

I have fitted two steering wheels both on my Irish basic spec 07. The original was soft and knackered and the first one I fitted was a tiny racing job from e-bay which you had to buy a adapter with. Using an allan Key and soft hammer it is no real problem removing or installing the wheel. Like your good self not able to see the clocks got the better of me and I have replaced it with wooden job from mx5 Parts and the same adapter worked on it. The Horn in the centre of the wheel was earthed through the wheel itself so there was only need to connect one wire and this is the most fidly part geeting it to work.

Regards Robbie.
