Left front wheel bearing is knackered. I have a second hand hub to replace it but was wondering do I need a special tool to remove/ replace it?

Ok, it says - take the centre dust cap off, and with that out of the way, set about slackening the hub nut. This is staked into a groove in the stub axle and you need to straighten out the staked area so the nut can be turned. When this is removed, you'll find that the hub will be extremely tight as its torqued on.
29mm fits the nut (unusual size, check you have first) Book says a 1 1/8in AF socket will work too.
You need a good long length of bar to crank it off using the law off the lever etc.

nothing unusual apart from a 29mm socket..
remove wheel, caliper, caliper bracket, brake disk, 29mm nut on the hub under the hub cover (you'll need some scaffolding/cheater bar), remove hub.

Try and crank off that nut whilst the car wheel is on the ground as that nut will give resistance.
