Hi Folks---
This weather is surely taking its toll both on people & cars my 5 is garaged and in a timber built one at that but with all the fuss of trying to get it finished i forgot to drain the water and put in antifreeze mix. To my horror i have just discovered that my rad is frozen solid all pipes work frozen to twas not until i had the car started that i discovered the cause so i switched her off immediatly.
Question is now???? did i do any damage to the block. Today i spent about 2 hrs de--frosting it with hot water on all the rad pipes & got all the water out of the rad added some coolent mix started it and everything seemed fine till i discovered a leak at the bulkhead end of the engine near the water thermosenser its spews it out when i rev the engine. HELP HELP---Will i have to take the engine out to get at this peoblem . And i havent even taking the car out yet as i dont have it long-----any ideas gratefully received

Check the simple stuff first, have a look at the pic below, check the two heater hoses for leaks and the "cursed" water plug. Also the seal on the round cover.

is there frost plugs on the block

The illustrated picture was a great help--but its so bl--dy cold here even in the newly built shed i dare not investigate further im going to leave good be good now until the spring and let it thaw out itself.

Update---on my frozen engine

Having dianosed the problem thanks to all that replied---- I ordered the new gasket genuine Mazda part No.B621-15-173 from a Mazda dealer.
Having first looked it up on on a mazda sit cost was 70-pence sterling went to pick it up at my dealer cost 8 Euro- bl--dy rip off nearly tempted to trow it back at the guy in the parts dept .
Anyway just taught id share this info with you good folk.

Today Saturday , 16. got a start on the rear gasket housing the gasket is of a very light steel covered in what used to be a black layer of sealent just wondering if this was the original one fitted in Japan when made--- it is useful to have a mirror so you can see directly the face of the housing for any cracks etc also to make sure it is clean for the new one overall time inc tea break 1 hr plus allow time for a chat with the neighbour to
