My alternator belt has been slipping again, I fit a new one about a 2 months ago. How much should I adjust the belt? I tightened it till it stopped screeching and let the engine run at high revs for a bit and it seems grand now.

I bought one of these http://www.ebay.com/itm/12V-24V-RED-DIG ... 5ae46e6cf2 to check the voltage, much easier than a multimeter across the batter.

On any belt, you should be just able to twist it 90 degrees between thumb and finger at the centre point between pulleys on the longest distance.

Damn belt is still slipping, how loose does the 14mm bolt at the pivot point need to before I tighten the adjuster?
