Hi Guys,

What grease do you use for slider pins in calliper - can you post some links or name or place where to buy in Dublin area.

I know it should be hi-temp silicone grease just cant find anything appropriate.

Other problem I have is that one rear callipers pistons is stuck and will not react to adjuster screw.

Any advice how to deal with it? Or any place in Dublin city who do rebuild callipers?

Thanks,
seb

problem is not the grease type but lack of regular maintenance. Rear Calipers should really be stripped and checked annually as they are a well known weak-point.

Is the adjuster turning????

If your rear calliper is like mine you'll probably have to replace the piston and seals if the piston bore is ok. Copper grease is what your looking for available in any motor factors.

Did a rebuild of rear caliper, piston seals, o rings etc. recently as mine started leaking. Good write ups and pics available in miata.net garage. Only real problem area was the inner circlip which is a bit of a nuisance to get at. Set of picks from mcquillans tools did the job - same set of picks on offer in Lidl a few weeks later at a fraction of the price... lol

Dublin based and happy to share whatever knowledge and experience might be helpful having done this.... If the piston bore is not too badly worn, should be ok. If the adjuster mechanism is knackered, then not too sure....

I hope to rebuild the brakes on my Mx5 and you can get a calliper rebuild kit from Big Red in the UK. If you google Big Red Bakes you will get their web site. Hoping it will all work out.
If you send your callipers to them they will rebuild them and paint them as well.

Damo.

Thanks for all advice.

Copper grease on slider pins is not so good idea - has to be silicone as there is rubber all over the place and copper dries out any way.

I have seen Bigredd. I will probably send them the calliper as they are the cheapest - did any body used their service? The price is so good is actually suspicious :D

The piston is all rusted at least the out side part of it. Getting the new piston + seals is actually more expensive then full rebuilt in Big Red.

Still looking for a proper grease for slider pins. Seems that best I can find so far is Castrol Red Rubber grease.

you need to use red rubber grease on the sliders.

do NOT use copper grease anywhere near the sliders - its for the back of the pads only> copper grease will help your sliders seize up very quickly

ive used this stuff for years and never had a caliper stick.
