Postby deccydoo » Wed, 19 Mar 2008 8:03 +0000

has anyone managed to transport a surfboard with the mx5? i was looking at the soft rack to go on the hard top but there designed for 4 doors and i dont think it would be very stable.

Bike Rack

Postby robmx5 » Wed, 19 Mar 2008 8:34 +0000

Would the surf board tie on to a bikerack. Used to regularly carry my mountain bike on my bike rack on my MKI 5, without problem - actually got a lot of funny looks when I had the roof down at the same time - saw a bloke in skerries last week with a Fiat Coupe. He had a bike rack attached to the rear of the car and had a sea kayak strapped to it. The car was a Sligo reg. but don't know for sure if he actually travelled that far

think ill have to skip the monstrosity on top of the mx5!!
second one looks ok for a trip to the beach.

my board is a 7 6 minimal so id say it would be way 2 wide on a bike rack

thanks for the opinions

ill have to keep going in my girlfirends car a while till i get it sorted. roll on the good weather and ill try it strapped to the passenger seat
