Get off alloy wheels that are locked on..

Postby carlosfandango » Thu, 12 Sep 2013 5:10 +0000

As the thread title suggests, the car came with a non original set of alloys & I want to put on original daisys.
However, each wheel has a locknut & I have no key :?:

Any suggestions?

You could try to "Pop" them by driving in a self-tapping screw, drill a hole if necessary, and then levering with a claw hammer..this will destroy the lock nuts though. Remember to protect the wheels at the pivot point.

the easiest way is to take it to your local tyre centre and ask the guys there to remove the lock nuts...they do it all the time

Thanks lads. I'm not worried about wrecking the locknuts but don't really want to damage the wheels as even though I'm changing them, I plan to paint them black/dark grey & keep as spares or possible track use.

I'll have a go at getting 'em off myself first. If I've no luck, I'll head around to my local tyre shop.

Depending on the type ,get say an 18mm socket, and good ol hammer it on.It must be tight over the nut and unscrewc in the normal way.Works a treat onyl the locknuts will be knackered
