MX5 MK3 Roadster (Windscreen cracked)

Hi all,

Lucky enough to have a stone crack the windscreen today. So I need to look into sourcing a repalcement fron windscreen.

My key concern is the replacement glass used and the installation (damage/leaks).

The insurance policy covers the winscreen but I'm concerned with the "standard" glass provided, how good is it and the standard of fitting.

I assume if I go to the effort of spending the additional money at a Mazda dealers for a new windscreen, the same approach for fitting maybe used as is used by the insurance companies.

Maybe I'm overthinking it... Just want to get the best job done.

So if anyone can suggest the best option, I'd appriciate it.

Located in the midlands but willing to drive to a garage that treats MX5 with TLC!

Cheers,

Dom

I've just had mine replaced (MK1), it was farmed out to "All Glass" in Galway who did an excellent job. I'd imagine going to a dealership will probably result them calling a similar company rather than doing it in-house.
I don't know if the MK3 is the same but the MK1 Eunos Roadsters had thinner glass than their UK/Irish market equivalents, all this involved was replacing the seal with a thicker one (which the windscreen company did without asking).

I think you over think a bit. You have it covered by insurance and it's most important thing. If that would be me I'd get it done by reputable company (I'm covered by auto glass) who specialises and know what they are doing. Ask for options and advice etc. My brother got an anti glare one. So you could come out with a better glass then oem. Good luck!

Hi Steve & Deivis,

Thanks for the feedback. Just wanted to get some input from the club members rather than hear after the fact that someone here had some value information.

I recall a friend having a screen replaced on a car going back a good couple of years ago and they used a screw driver to gain leverage marking the pillar :(

Deivis the anti glare option maybe a nice to have... will check this out.

Thanks all,

Dom

If they damage your car while working on it they have to fix it. And if its being done through your insurance they have to follow it up.
