Mx5 Odomoter NC

Postby antaka » Wed, 14 May 2014 7:07 +0000

Hello all, apologies if I am posting this in the wrong place!

I am looking to get my first MX5 and currently looking at some NC's from '06 and the odometers are in KM. I have been told this means that they are most likely imports, that km was not a standard till 07. Is this the case?

Much appreciated for the help!

Would there be that many imported mk3's in Ireland? As a matter of interest what worries you about an imported one? Most mk1's are imported but I appreciate they have only a fraction of the electrics. Am I wrong in thinking a mk3 jap import would be better equipped also?

My aim this year is to get a spin in a mk3!!

Fla, I was worried that if an import it could be dodgy or not as rust proofed as an Irish car!

All concerns are definitely valid and my experience is only with the mk1 but the jap imports were always in better shape than the uk or irish models. I dunno is it the same with the mk3 or not. Usually the imports have A/c and better specss like leather as standard. They are always worth a look.

Instead of looking at the odometer, the easiest way to tell a jap import is that it will have a square number plate plate on the back.
All mk3 were built on the same line so I can't imagine there would be different rust proofing for the cars depending on the region they were being delivered to.
Personally I wouldn't shy away from a Japanese import for concerns of rust. UK import would be a different story due to their love of salty roads.
