Busted Rear Window Zip!

Postby Medic5 » Thu, 15 May 2008 12:35 +0000

Hi guys, after the Galway run I notice that about 3 - 4 inches of my rear window zip is broken. I can open and close it, but when I open the zip to fold down the soft top I have to stop 2 or 3 inches before where the zip is seperated. Any ideas or advice on how to fix this?

hi,

my mum, when i was small on any bags etc with partial busted zips used to get a big needle and strong thread and sow up the busted area together - am i right in saying that the window is ok and you can still put your roof up and down as is...............if its the case, id's sow up the afftected zip area before it speads down the zip.

hope this idea helps!

Zip

Postby aquarian5 » Thu, 15 May 2008 11:50 +0000

Hi Medic,

Yes I know what you mean it seems to be a fairly common problem. Those last 3 inches on the zip there can be quiet a lot of strain there, so I dont bother unzipping mine anymore.
I have some bubble-wrap about the diameter and length of your arm and I just push this into the middle of the plastic window as Im letting down the roof and ...hey presto done !! It saves the window getting creased. No more fiddling and unzipping etc etc...Very quick, I find this very handy.

Hope this helps.
Regards John.

So by the sounds of it, there is no way of getting the zip fixed?

If the above suggestions don't work, pop into a sail maker's, they should be able to sort you out.. try and get them to put on one of the small zip stops (the small clamps with 4 "claws").
