Aircon.....

Postby mrges » Sun, 05 Jun 2016 11:22 +0000

Hi - actually posted this in a reply to another thread - then thought it would probably be better suited here:

The aircon isn't working...... I'm guessing it's a "re-gas" job (well, I'm hoping it's only a "re-gas" job!). Has anyone had this done? If so, can you recall where (and approx. cost)?
Any other possible reasons it may not be working (anything in particular I should look for)?

Thanks.

Not on the mx5 but done it a few times on the daily , basically takes about an hour and around 60 -80
They check for leaks by running a uv dye through the system and then fill with refrigerant gas and lubricant oil .
I'm sure there are a number or garages in your area doing this and if they don't they will know how does .
Hope this helps

Hi Brian - thanks for the info. eunos-r also got back with some possible places in Mullingar who might do this. Will give them a shout and take it from there. Having said that, if it's not raining, and not freezing cold, dropping the roof does a pretty good job of keeping things cool!

Hi Folks

Brought my newly acquired Eunos 1993 Mk1 to FirstStop on Malahide Road today to "innocently" ask them to re-gas my air con for their normal €60 (got my 08 c5 and mates 06 MB E200 done last year). They advised that the fittings on their equipment would not fit my Eunos Air Con system and that my car uses a different type of gas to the one they use nowadays...

I would be grateful if for any information on where I could go to get system re-gassed and some idea of the cost.

Thanks

There is indeed two types on AC gas.Old systems use different to modern cars (RF12A? if I remember correctly)There is usually a sticker on front panel near the rad showing gas type.Later ones are RF134 maybe. It is still possible to get someone to re gas the older cars.

Yes, 93's used the older gas. You will need a drop in replacement gas, not R134a that is used in modern cars. You need to call a auto a/c specialist. I doubt any of the tyre garages could do this.

Halfords sell a re-gassing kit. Worked grand on 2 cars for me albeit Hondas.

I've used the Halfords one before. Works perfectly.
Unfortunately the last time I re-gased the MX5 it blew a seal. (It was badly perished)

But you can get them converted. Probably easier to get a second hand newer one into it though
