Mark 1 lights won’t go down.

Postby Andy » Wed, 07 Mar 2018 1:35 +0000

Hi I have recently bought a mark1 & the head lights have stoped going up & down.
I have changed the button on the dash, & got a new relay, made no difference .
Can anyone tell me what else to look for thanks.

To check for power at the motors, remove the cover (if they have them) off the top of the cylindrical shaped part of the motor beside the headlight and twist the knob on the top to lower/raise it. Careful when doing this as if you go anti-clockwise(I think its anti-clockwise from memory) it might cycle down and back up again quite quickly.

I have had this issue few times but they seem to reset themselves after a while.Disconnect the battery and reconnect after few minutes and see what happens.Other than that I would suggest relay fault or power to relay supply fault

Hi I have tried the relays & have had the batteries disconnected a few times but worth trying again. So maybe the power going to the relays ? Thanks for your help.

Cant remember exactly but is there no 2 realys. One inside passengers wing, under the bonnet, towards the rear of engine bay and then definitely the retractor relay under the dash as drivers knee area.We have both if you need them

have you checked the switch on the dash isn't pushed in? (no really heheh) Also check the connector on the back of that switch hasn't fallen out and isn't corroded/dirty.

Had a similar issue on one of my headlights. TrI'd everything until I decided to take out the motor and open it up. Absolutely filthy in there. Cleaned it all up and worked perfectly since.

I still think its the "Retracta" relay under the dash. Two types ,one is green casing and one is black casing and numbers are different
