Gear box oil

Postby mrges » Sun, 01 Sep 2019 9:45 +0000

Changed the gearbox oil earlier, and also set about replacing the rubber bits on the gear lever. There was some (as in a little) dirty oil in the turret ...

Does anyone know how much should be in there? Do I fill the turret (this bowl) completely? It only had oil in the bottom when I drained it.

Many thanks.

Oh, and I used a good hack found on the internet - filling the gearbox would be a bugger of a job without a hoist/ramp or some kinda special pump.... but a bit of hose attached to a funnel at one end, and the other end slotted into the gearbox, worked well.

Great work done there, the turret only takes a small amount of oil, probably as much as you got out plus a drop, when you refit the gear leaver it will force out whatever it’s over filled by

Great - thanks for that. Turret filled and everything (hopefully everything!) refitted correctly and tightened up. Just need to get it off the stands and back on the ground again, then go for a drive to see if it made any noticeable difference.... but it's lashing here at the moment, so the drive will have to wait a while longer.

I just filled mine up enough so that it wouldn't spill over when everything was reassembled.
