stereo draining battery

Postby ger » Tue, 26 Jan 2010 11:41 +0000

I changed my old pioneer stereo the other day to one of the aldi or lidl ones with usb etc.
The pioneer had an extra bit of harness to convert the 2 wiring blocks into one, this was no longer needed so was unplugged to leave the original 2 block connectors.

Plugged in the new stereo and power comes on and all works except when the ignition is turned off the stereo stays on, even with the stereo on standby its enough to drain the battery over a couple of days of non use.

Pulled it out today and put a meter on the wiring, 12V is fine, 12V switched is reading 12V iginition on 10V ignition off. I took out the 12V permanent wire and turned on the ignition, stereo does not come on.

Could the 12V switched and 12 V permanent be reversed in the wiring block?

Dont really like messin with electrics to much anyone had a similar problem?

The ISO standard is a bit messed up when it comes to the 12v permanent and the 12v ignition/switched depending on the vehicle manufacturer. So, some looms that come with headunits already have a removeable cable (yellow for one, red for the other).

In other words yes, just swap the two cables around on yours.
It's a small world after all. It's a small, small world
