Best of luck in your search.....as rare as hens teeth. There were only made for a few months near the end of 1989.
Even the 1990 model year is getting a little scare now (but still much easier to find). My guess is that you'll have your work cut out.

Had not realised they were only available at the end of 1989. Might need to widen the search to 1990 in that case.

They are rare alright, loads of them in the UK, but the cost of sterling is bad now. See example below:

Scroll down to see good photos, looks a nice original one with some nice extras.

I'm surprised that one on eBay went for so little !

Production started in early 1989. I think they were only for Japanese market though. Europe got their share in 1990. If you'll find 1989 you're very lucky, I don't think I ever even seen one for sale. If a UK car it'll be most likely rusted to nothing..beware!

The early ones were US only. It was September '89 for Japan. Regardless, you'll probably have to hit the UK if you're hell bent on one.

You could be right! Just know it wasn't the end of year the production started.

The UK cars are subject to a hell of a lot of road salt but not all, a lot of MX5 owners take them off the road for the winter.

You can get good early rust free ones, here is an example of a 89 roadster picked up recently in the UK, have a read and look at the photos of the sills opened. Not bad at all, but make your own mind up.

The silver one I posted earlier looked good from the photos, but I agree it might not look as good underneath.

Might as well plug my own. Paintwork needs attention in places but apart from that it's a solid car!

No nct or tax I'm afraid. When we got it a few months ago it had been sitting idle for about two years (fan belt had snapped and previous owner never replaced it) so it was driving until parked and it started for us first time with a booster pack!
Haven't had an extensive look underneath really but checked the usual places and it seems fine!
Number in the ad is my dads, it's his car so you can ring him for more info or message me on this :)
