looking for mazda mx5

I'm just looking for some information. I am looking to buy my first mx5. I have a budget of 3000. Ive been looking on various car sites and im wondering about the variation of price. Some newer (01/02) were priced at 2000 while older models were more expensive. My question(s) what should I be looking out for? Would a older car with lower mileage be better than a newer car with higher mileage. Im basically looking for a for a 1.6 that I can use for the next 3 or so years.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

What you should be looking at is condition, you must check very carefully underneath and do not buy unless you get the Car on a lift to check for rot. High mileage is not important as engines and gearboxes are cheap. Do not buy a UK car as most are rotten. Jap imports are a much better option.
Get someone with experience to check any potential purchase very carefully.
Cars lying up for a while will need things like brake callipers serviced .

So condition is everything.

From my experience you have a very healthy budget for a mx5, you should be able to get a low milage, clean, rust free mk2/mk2.5 with a hardtop for that kind of money! (I know I sold one for 2k!)

Go for condition over age, that would be my advice.
