Hi All,
At the end of the month I'll finally have enough cash for a used MX5. Looking for a mk2.5 1.6 engine in very clean condition, preferably with a hard top, nct and service history. Anyone know of any good examples for sale out there?

My simple advice is be careful what you buy and DO NOT BUY UK / ex UK CAR as they rust seriously even at low mileage.Jap are probably best really as I had lad here last week with genuine Irish mk2.5 2002 that had Park Motors number plates on it (Main Dealer) but it is 12 yeasr old and failed NCT on seriuos structural rust...DO NOT DRIVE THIS VEHICLE...warning given to owner!!He thought they meant the rusty sills and rear arches but asked me to look at it and the front chassis legs were rotten through!!. This car was the exception really being original Irish and maybe it had been damaged repaired before as example because most Irish are very good .Be warned or bring someone with you who knows MX5,s in particular.Few nice ones on Donedeal at moment .Dont be fooled by nice shiny bodywork .I am not scare mongering just letting you know. Most members on here will steer you in right direction

Hi ,thank you so much for the advise. I've been reading a lot the last few months about what to watch out for but I'm sure actual experience is far better. I have been keeping a close eye on donedeal alright. If you see any particularly nice examples let me know :)

Hello James
Kieran from Limerick is selling his 2.5 1.6 with good hardtop and some extras ,a nice car and a really nice honest man to deal with . It's an irish car I think so should have none of the rust problems Robert is talking ,it's in the for sale section . Well worth a call and a look

Check out the last registration number in 2003 for Irish Cork reg,s and that will tell you if its Uk or not but looking at the high registration number it may be UK car .I am not sure how many new cars were registered in Cork in 2003 but google it or motor tax office ?

I'm guessing corrosion will be more of an issue on a UK car?

It's seems to be a huge issue on uk cars ,you would be well advised to give it a really good going over, front chassis legs, quarter panels etc.
Get it looked at on a proper lift by a good mechanic and just try and buy an irish car !
Best of luck
Brian
