decel rattle

Postby ger » Tue, 19 Aug 2008 8:59 +0000

I have the general idea of how to get rid of this wastegate rattle, but i'm unsure if i should be shortening or lengthing the rod?

I'm getting 5psi at the moment, how do i get rid of the rattle and get it up to 6psi, ie roughly how many turns and in what direction.

thanks, that makes it clear.

I had a look at the pic you posted of your setup,

i have a couple of questions,

Where did you get the tube to repsition the air filter
Do you still have an AFM, i couldnt see one in the pic.

I had a look at the space available it seems quite tight with the AFM.

I don't have an AFM as the air flow is now measured with a MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensor instead, it comes with the Link ECU from FlyinMiata.
The intake pipe came with the turbo when I bought it, I got it from a guy in Sweden who had made up the intake + intercooler pipes, they're not a bad job but not fantastic either.

I've seen some people mounting their AFM ON the turbo pointing towards the front of the car.

Here is my set up at the moment, pretty std apart from the FM heat shield.

I am planning to fit a washer bottle in place of the carbon box on sat.
The father in law owns a scrap yard, i'm sure i can find a smaller bottle and get a neat installation.

Where did you source your intake pipe work fergus?
Did you turn your turbine 90 degrees?

I would be more intrested in getting the filter behind the headlight vent.

your set up looks very neat though.

I suppose i need to source a short tube with a bend of about 60 degrees.

Any suggestions anyone

I'm going be changing my turbo setup again soon, going up to 8PSI or if I go the MS P&P route then 10PSI with WI....wonder what timing to use lol.
I'll be totally reworking the pipe work - taking it all out.
Installing 3" IC side-by-side radiator etc. SWEET !
Trying to sort out some other stuff first but the fookin rain in killing my time since last month.

Fergus, do you have a pic of your pipe work (hehe) before the new bits go on. The design of the std greddy intake is not great. If your getting rid of anything let me know.

No rattle of the air filter anymore. Oil return goes straight to the oil pan instead of rapping around the engine in a pipe. Engine strut bar is back on. It's a lot cleaner looking than with the Greddy pipes and less chance of leaks etc :D
