The best turbo

I'm having turbo thoughts. The supercharger has run great for 5 years but I fancy more power. It's fairly easy to change over and if I don't like it I'll put the charger back in.

So, I want no lag and hopefully 250 at the fly. I'm not going to fabricate, I'll buy a mani and down pipe with oil and water lines.

So, what's the best choice of used turbo? Td04 or Garrett Gt?. Borg warmers get great reviews but they are nearly 2k new. I could buy a whippile charger for that!

More power?? You're a lunatic!! :)
When you going out again in mondello?,would like your opinion on my turbo setup and will happily take advice from you. I'm considering going to the May bank holiday trackday, assuming there is one that day..must check the mondello calendar.

John.

edit..
Yep, Monday 2nd MAY is an open track day..

Artech for manifold & downpipe
Turbo, depends what you want... faster spool or better top end?
I've not had issues with the TDO4H-15G on mine. 2.5" exhaust got rid of any lag.

I was there yesterday doing a autotest. Great fun. I don't think I'll do the open days. The octane days are much better. Next one is 19th feb, but I'm away for it.

I'd like to see and drive your turbo set up, maybe we could meet up and drive each others?

Thanks Steve, was thinking about a G19 mani and downpipe. I have a mx5parts cat back exhaust but might need a less restrictive silencer. TD04 is easy to get so its an option.

Hi Andrew, mine is off road, probably until April, but feel free to drop over for a visual, or more, it's got nct and insurance, tax only issue.I'm in Newbridge. :) keep us up to speed on the octane dates, only issue is they usually conflict with work hours:(

Turbo needed will require lots of thought. What pressure ratio, what charge cooling you use and how you want to drive the Car. Do lots of studying and learn how to use compressor maps.

No, I'm looking at a sprintex charger now. Its a twin screw, so runs cooler and will give more boost. Mad money tho!

I have a Leon cupra 280 too, loads of power but even the best turbo's can't do what a charger does.

what kind of price is the sprintex? And, have you been in a turbo mx5? I have a gt2560r ball bearing turbo and there is only a smidge of lag. Well able for over 250hp, great turbo. And I believe the smaller tdo4 turbos have even less lag, less hp up top. I havnt actually experienced the difference myself though. If you go for a big borg warner youll have all the lag, and no more money! Maybe get a shot in a turbo'd mx5 before you make a decision? Mine should be mapped 'soon' enough. should...
If you want 250hp, id go for at least a gt2560r size or equivilant td, holset, borg warner, whatever. At 250hp, around more or less 14psi (depending on how good or bad the map is), the gt25r isn't running near its limits, which is always good. Try to get a ball bearing turbo anyway. A gt2560r came on S15s and can be bought for around 450e.
