I will be getting some form of forced induction in the next month or so, I would really like to compare the greddy kit vs a jackson supercharger, anyone in the dublinish area that can tke me for a test drive?

All the best

I'm not in Dublin but I'll give you a shout when I'm heading over next...

You on the fence about it?

yeah, i'm siding on the jackson kit at the mo.
I used to own a supercharged lancia and it was great having all that bottom end torque and no spool up or down.

A second hand jackson supercharger is roughly the same price as a new greedy, i know of one going at the minute for 850 stg.

On the turbo side of things what are the power surges like? i dont want to get caught out half way round a corner.

Both kits seem to offer the same power increase but off the line or out of a courner i'd say the supecharger is better.

Any advice welcome

>>yeah, depends what you are after.. I prefer the "boosting" feeling myself.

>>nah, it won't suddenly boost without you expecting it. Its very easy to control with your right foot, I spend most of my time when commuting between 3k rpm and 4k rpm using about 7psi and up to 11psi when I need a bit more.
You can tootle round town/cruise without ever going into boost, it'll drive like a naturally aspirated car.
There is no turbo lag if you keep revs up over 3.5krpm with a GReddy. The only time you'll need to wait a sec or two for it to spool is if you are cruising along in 4th or 5th with 0 boost and you floor it as the GReddy is a large enough turbo for a small 1.6 engine. Its not as bad as the old Saabs with their "floor it.. nothing.. nothing.. whoooosh" tho. 5th will feel like 4th currently does and 4th like 3rd etc.

>>Hmm.. probably.. depends on your use of the gear stick I'd imagine as the supercharger will have more low down torque for a given <3k RPM.
Out of the box, yup, they'd be about the same power wise. But its MUCH easier to upgrade the turbo up to/over 200hp (and you will want more after about 2 months :D ).

Off the line with "out of the box" kits .. dunno.. must have a look for some dyno plots.

aha!
Heres a quick vid "someone" took to show the lack of turbo lag in 5th on the motorway with my, I mean "a" GReddy

0 boost is at 11o'clock, you can see it go from 20vac to 10psi

Thanks for the info.

o.k the choice is a new greddy at 900ish or a second hand 3000 mile JCSR on sale at the mo for 850stg and probably a drive to the uk (not really a hassel more of a nice road trip)

Im now back on the fence,

The lag was my main concern with the turbo, Steve did you do your own instalation?

I suppose i still need a test drive.

Plus you can upgrade the Greddy kit down the line for even MORE power, much more than a SC.

Cut the b()ll5h!t lads (laughing my sock off thou)
Any tips on where to get myself a Jackson SC for a nice price?
I think IL Motorsport is overpriced with numerous things, so that's anyways a guide for the top price.
