Just wondering what reasons you came up with to justify keeping a two seater car.
Mine was well "you have a four seater car"
Anyone got any more?

Invariably 2 seater roadsters are fast - and therefore when the waters break, it can get you and your partner to the hospital faster! 8)

With apologies to my friend in Co. Clare...... it was for my mid-life crisis

Either get a little red sports car or have an affair with a young wan~~~ still haven't figured out which would have been the cheaper option though :? :?

Cos life's too short not to...

I like cars a lot - but get bored with them rather quickly. Much to the bank managers (dis)pleasure I tend to change wheels about every two years (the shortest spell was a Fiat Uno - 8 months; longest was the MK1 MX5 - 6 years). Have worked out that at this rate, if I am still living/driving at 75 years of age (and assuming cars are not put off the roads by environMENTALISTS) then I will have about 15 cars to go...that's not enough!!

If you have a 2-seater first, you can make a case to get a 4-seater as well.
If on the other hand, you only have a 4-seater, the 2 seater will just become an unnecessary expense and remain a pipe dream until the kids have grown up.

Ah Fergus, you not one of these new men then?? Tell ya, it can sometimes be as tricky as fiting bushings and the turbo boost can catch you unawares if you're not careful

Well having tried the affair with the young wan (does it count if I'm single)...and rather than getting a tattoo, shaving my head, giving up work & going to find myself on a beach in GOA, the MX seemed the easier option.
Realistically tho, I've wanted one since they launched and since I'd reached that certain age-group I decided that if I was to have a crisis I may as well enjoy it (with the top down)[/quote]

Well having read the previous post concerning this question my reason for buying a mx5 is simply this. Having worked in the motor trade for 16 yrs driven most makes & model,s of car including Rolls Royce silver shadow & having spent many hours polishing & buffing them to showroom condition i always wanted an open top. But age was the problem at the time and you would want to have won the lotto to afford the insurance. Now that im in my late years 50 plus and having decided to buy a car i went for a mx5. Before i had this car i always had motorcycles and loved the open space around me when out for a spin the feel of the wind through the hair the sun beaming on your back or front depending which way you were travelling. So took a decision to sell my bikes :( & buy a sportscar. As they say 4 wheels are better than 2 :) o the joy i feel like im 20 all again. So now all i want is my Hawaii short sleeved shirt and my sunglasses and im ready for the open road again only i feel much safer in my 5

Because it's amazing and cost a third the price of a new Golf, which is decidedly not
