Forgot to put "other" option in the poll above, list it in your post....

My wife was renewing her insurance last week and she was refused by 123.ie and quinndirect.ie. An it got me wondering, what kind of bull**** these companies might be talking.
So the question is what reasons have you been given by insurance companies for not giving ye cover? and who are ye with now?

Quinn Direct
-Wont cover cos it's a sports car.

123.ie
-Wont cover cos its pre 1997.

Currently with Hibernian.

I was with Quinn Direct with my BMW, got the Mx5 1/2 way through the year, when i was ringing around to get quotes they said no they don't insure sports cars and was told if I got car I'd have to cnacel my insurance with them, but when I rang to transfer my insurance to it, I was told they don't usually do sports cars but......... it is cost a few extra quid to go fully comp, I think I'm about €650 or €700 on a 1.8.............Renewed my insurance with them again this year...........It all depends who you talk to Load of BULL there should be some sort of regulation................

I too am with Hibernian, maybe becasue we have a club conntact.
The very fact that Evonne can look at the policy renewal invitation and knock couple of hundred euro off in a matter of minutes says that there is something weird going on and that they are full of c***. Most other places wouldn't touch me with my claim from a few years ago, being under 25, and it being a sports car.

Initially, when I went to get insurance on my 5, I was quoted some ridiculous figure(mk 1 1.6), can't remember how much. This was because of an accident by a named driver (wife) on another policy. My broker did some work and eventually we settled on a comprehensive policy with hibernian after I registered the 5 in the wifes name!!(Ironic or what) and I became a named driver on the 5. Last years policy cost us €544.28, details as follows:

gross premium......€990.64
Less 30%ncb.........€693.45
(after 1 yr)
Less special disc's..€592.90
(limited mileage and
2nd car disc)
less pen point free
disc @ 10%............€533.61
plus gov levy 2%....€544.28

I already have 3 vehicles in my name so it worked out well for the missus to have a policy in her own name an to be able to build up an ncb of her own... Thing is , she rarely drives the 5.
The policy also includes cover abroad, replacement lock cover, fire brigade charges, personal belongings, medical and emergency treatment, windscreen cover, and stereo cover.
I think that all of those with hibernian will recognise the above. There are other discounts also available for advanced drivers (as in safety status),
loyalty discounts and customer discounts (where you have other policies with hibernian).
hope this is of some use..

Hi Ash, my insurance is up soon and I was wondering if I could get the details of the club contact to see if she can do it right for me.
I'm also under 25(just) and with driving a mk 1 I'm a huge risk
It'd be much apreciated!
Anthony.

What?!! 180bhp audi tt...yes no problem, 1.6 mx5...you gotta wait 9 years!!
