Anyone here ever bought a car in the UK? I'm thinking buying a car that is too rare to find one here. How did you go about it? fly over, view, drive back get the ferry? fly over, view, fly back get transported? buy blind?

Hey Fez

Haven't personally but did look into it a lot. I've also had friends do it. There are a lot of trucks doing good deals on transporting from the uk. I'm no expert on the issue but according to a few here the UK cars really suffer badly from rust due to the gritting so a personal inspection is probably best. Would love to know how you get on with this though so keep us posted.

Presuming its an mx5 you would be mad not to check it personally.Come to my yard and I can show you several mx5,s with RUST .All Uk cars and most have rust issues from sills ,arches, chassis rails etc.Do not buy with out viewing.Plus vrt is about 8//900e for mk1 and transport is 400e and most companies will not collect from private addresses.I have few friends in Uk that come here to buy mx5,s.Can you not source something here or what exactly are you looking at??

not looking for an mx5, 1 is trouble enough! Thinking about a new daily driver, now that herself has passed her test.

I have bought 4 cars in the uk and no real trouble at all. Talked most of it through on the phone the went over checked it out and drove it home on the ferry. They generally have a bigger market so prices are cheaper you just need to consider your vrt which I didn't. Just stick with someone reasonably big so you have some comeback if necessary e.g. Main agent car supermarkets etc.

Good luck.
