Dont think the year is of any relevance at this end of the market do you?...a 2001 car does not impress anybody anymore than a 97.Ive also got fsh with 2 owners and a desirable honda auto box and all the toys you mention.180 bhp not 80 and only 10 mpg less which is not a problem because when you buy a car like this its only for low mileage would you agree?.135k miles in a honda is like 200k in a renault and no need to worry about dodgy ecu's.Spray the front bumper and put a window regulator in and you have 100k miles of trouble free motoring ahead. Will the renault do that?I bet it costs more in the long run over a years motoring and will make the drive so crap.I would pay the extra 200 euro a year road tax and 300 on petrol for a 12 month period and not take a risk in a french madmasoeilles car.And does the renault have VSA (vehicle stability assist)....so the accord is safe too as well as fast reasonably economical with a much better chance of moving on to a boyracer than any renault.Megane is not cool at all

Year nearly always comes into it, nothing to do with impressing people
but all to do with condition.

Well i bought mine for doing high miles. I have had one of those hondas
it was a great car but i only ever got 26 mpg out of it mainly town driving.

I've done 6,000 miles the last 4 months with out spending a penny on it.
Yes i would agree that a honda would in general be more reliable but with
any old car you take your chances.

As for safety the Renaults are know for there high ncap ratings
and an 01 car would more that likely be safer that a 1997
The renault has airbags in the seats as well.

I reckon i'd sell the renault on a lot easier than the petrol guzzling honda.
Most i rang up about where sold with in a day or so when i was looking.
I think with the way things are people would be funny about the 2l tax and the petrol.

It will be way cool watching our megane classic being crushed in the scrap yard as soon as the snow melts. I'll film it and we can have a pole on how cool it is to flatten one, if i had a gun or a piano and a crane id do a clarkson on it first.

I can understand the cheap run about thing and ivans logic and i'm sure the coupe is a bit nicer than the saloon but the build quality is pretty bad, ours started to rust all around the back window and had to be welded on the inner arch it got that bad, this is a 9 yr old car, seems more like the type of thing you got with a fiat in the 70's.

picked up a nov 02 volvo v70 80k miles, 7 seats, winter pack (traction/stability control, heated seats etc) metalic midnight blue with full cream leather, child pack, factory 16 inch rimes new tyres one owner, spotless with full volvo service history, nct 2011, taxed oct 2010, 4500 euro.

What a comfortable way to travel and 180bhp 250lbs torque, it moves for such a big estate, doesn't get 45 to the gallon but i am averaging 35 at the mo with a mix of driving

As for the megane saloon very, very uncool

the engine seems nice 2.0 5 cyl 20V turbo, I know ford own volvo for the time being but i dont think the engine is shared with any ford, could be wrong though.

Dont get me wrong ivan, i'm not slagging off your daily runabout, just had a great dislike for this car.

When geraldine my wife was due to give birth, we dropped the kids at her mothers when we went back to the car to head for the hospital the key fob had lost sink with the car (a common problem as i now know) anyway ended up going to the coombe in the 5 praying we wouldn't be giving birth in glen of the downs or somewhere else on route. KYB AGX's saved the day, could have been an ad for them, 'need a soft ride in a hurry, think KYB'

I know the renaults are not great cars but they are not that bad and other cars are not that good. The worst trouble I've had with cars was with BMW and vw. Never go near them again.

I had looked at the Volvo too just couldn't find one at the right price.

no 1 its pink.......2 its french and so shite 3 they are worthless seconhand 4 ask any mechanic who worked on them...........they feckin hate them, and shitroens, and peukjoes.

The honda will pass the emissions test in 30 years if looked after and they dont go wrong. Ive had 5 and never spent a shilling. True they like a drink but ya dont get power for nought.

wife has a 05 megane monaco, fully loaded with leather etc.. leather great when you have a dog but electrics are pure sh..e, auto wipers sensor gone so no intermittant wipe, electric windows keep tripping out and credit card style key has a mind of its own. these problems spoil what is not a bad car, comfy, economical and safest in class for year. sorry she didn't buy a basic one with manual windows and non-sensored wipers and lights.
