Im not a fan! ugly for a start and in no-mans land. But Im not a fan of track day cars in general lotus 2 eleven etc, and I dont mean a 5 with a cage and coilovers but 50 grand machines like this. It impossible on the road and not as sharp as a bonafide race car. You could buy an f3 car for 10k which would be about 6 seconds a lap quicker than this on a track and have a nice 5 and even a fireblade with change left over.

I notice they (unfairly !) raced one of these on Top Gear against a CBR600 Honda.
The Honda got the drop on it on acceleration. However the Atom got to the
finish first. But they really should have raced it against a 1000cc sports bike !
I fear the outcome would have been different......

Bike lap times dont actually tend to be particularly impressive, particularly on tight twisty tracks with out long staights, even the irish superbikes with race tyres and incedible straight line speed only do similar laptimes to very fast road cars like that atom and would be slower than most single seater cars. they dont stop well and suffer compared to cars in cornering partiularly the fast ones

Recently a Ducati Desmosedici raced a Ferrari 430 Scuderia at the Almeria
circuit in Spain. The Ferrari done around a 2:01 lap time and the Duke done a
1:47 laptime. Not too bad i reckon !!
However, on shorter tighter tracks you could very well be right.
I still reckon though that Top Gear should have raced a litre sports bike instead
of a 600cc !

that sounds about right!! that Duke would be well quicker in a straight line, particularly to get up over a ton, when I was over in brands i was a second quicker in the vee than an f355 race car on slicks, dont think he was much of a pilot mind.

The Ducati would want to be doing something right at £52,000 !!!
Do people on this site do many track days ?
