I'm an idiot - lost my keys & blipper

Postby Amri » Mon, 07 Mar 2011 11:19 +0000

I'm an idiot. Was walking from my car to my pilates class in Rathmines village tonight and somehow manage to lose my car key and blipper. Only realised leaving the class an hour later, thankfully car was still there! Went through a bit of a panic there for a few mins

Called into the Garda station and all the bars along the strip of main road where I walked but no joy.

Worst comes to worst and I don't find them, how much am I looking at for new locks and/or a new set of keys?

Sigh :(

Hi there,

No I have one spare alright, but just a key, no blipper.

Don't particularly want to rely on just one key and no spare though (can you actually get these copied?). What about replacing a blipper? Or are they linked to a specific lock set somehow?

I'm absolutely raging at myself :x

Thanks :)

Yes! Very interesting!! Thanks for this :)

Unfortunately that ebay guy only posts to the UK but have asked him about sending the bob to Belfast - worst case, it'd be great to have two of these, even if the other one turns up.

Edit: Am I being paranoid in wanting to change the locks knowing that someone is out there with my remote fob? It'd be handier if I could just copy the spare though - would a dealer do this? Tks again

If the key doesn't have a chip in it a good locksmith should be able to do one for you (the locksmith's in Stillorgan Shopping Centre made a spare for me).

That'd be very handy Steve, it's only up the road :) - but yet another stupid question, how do I determine if the key had a chip in it?

I suppose I could bring down the spare and see what they say tonight ...

Thanks all - this is looking like a very expensive accident, and i'm planning to put up posters in Rathmines and hope that some kind soul does the decent thing and calls me if they've found them!

Hi all,

I'm still on a mission to get a new remote fob for my car 8) I've only seen the specific visteon model 41703 come up on ebay once in the last 4 months and it still went for 100 euro second hand :?

I was wondering if I bought this kit on ebay, would it work? Has anyone tried to fit one of these before?

Thanks!!

its probably going to be cheaper to get an aftermarket thatcham cat 1 alarm/immob fitted and have the oem factory one disabled.

Mazda will charge you the fat end of 650 to supply a new blipper.
