Stumbled on to this thread on mx5 nutz: http://www.mx5nutz.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=96003It's a new startup in Shanghai, moulding a lot of carbon parts for mx-5s and apparently rx-7s too. The website is http://www.carbonmiata.com/, but the prices in the thread first mentioned seems better. I know some parts that are going on my wishlist for sure No affiliation, just admiring the parts they make

be very aware there is alot of fake carbon coming from china its actually black woven fibreglass http://www.fibreglast.com/product/Black ... ass_Fabricquality and carbon and cheap........ something isnt right there ..trust me! i do alot of carbon kevlar work and in my opinion it is unlikely that he is making this stuff from real carbon fibre.

Even it is it black fibreglass, the weight speaks for itself. Of course there can be differences in prices and quality, but for a interior handle or barndoor/headlight cover, I myself would not be too fussed. It can be coated another time of the finish doesn't hold up over time.

I suppose its a matter of taste but I think a lot of the carbon stuff looks naff, the vented headlight covers look better in fibre glass and colour coded.
You have to laugh at the vented headlight cover spiel though "Ultra light (200 grams per piece compared to the 750 grams of the OEM one so more than 1kg saved)"
mx5 at 100hp weighing 1000kg looses 1kg in weight - gains .1hp in power to weight
and at $180 thats $1800 per hp gained, don't think you can sell these in terms of weight reduction or power increase.

They do look cool but any of those small interior bits I would be just getting carbon dipped. Waste of money in my opinion. It's a different story for big carbon parts like bonnets boots etc, I can understand those. Just my two cents worth.

The mx5 bonnet is as light if not lighter than a carbon fiber replacement.

Yeah, I noticed that the bonnet was EXTREMELY light when breaking a car previously, like an eejit I thought that I had some high spec body part...turns out that the bonnet was standard, so if it ain't broken, don't fix it!!

I think the vented headlight cover is a bit pointless as the lights have to be off, why not vent the bonnet. also venting the bonnet in the other direction would allow sealing the bottom giving a purely flat bottom, no? But yeah I was shocked how light it is as standard.
The doors look really well made though, if not a bit overcomplicated.
And he should definitely do the hardtop or fastback he says he's going to.

problem with carbon miata is if and when the larger parts are available - the delivery and import tax is a killer plus its not real carbon fibre- its black fibreglass woven to look like carbon these are fibreglass prices and in fairness they have a nice finish but they are not carbon- trust me he contacted me and wanted to buy one of everything i sell so he could copy it , i lol'd and said no

i can make a hardtop , thats relatively simple
the expensive bit for the hardtops are glass / seals and clamps - basically all the hardware which would make an aftermarket hardtop about £200 more expensive than a good used oem one , which before you start has priced itself out of the market.
so the answer is yes i can make them but i cant offer a full hardtop cheaper than a good used one due to the bits needed for them
