was reading an interesting book entitled.....DO POLAR BEARS GET LONELY? and 101 other intrigueing science questions when i spotted an article on cheese mould when under cover and how to stop it.
The old trick was to put a sugar lump under the cover and this lowered the relative humidity enough to stop the mould as the sugar is highly hygroscopic (attracts moisture). Now i know it has been mentioned here before to use salf but, from years working on boats, the last thing you want near a steel bodied car is salt as once in it will swirl round with the miniscule drafts inside and eventually do harm.
So , im gonna try it as it seems to be a cheap cure.
the ISBN IS 978-1846681301 if anyone wants a good oul toilet read.

What about those little sachets of "stuff" that you often see packed with electrical goods to prevend dampness in storage?
What is it and can you get a bigger pack of it to put in the car? Or is this completely pointless?

Teena,
Its called Silica Gel and you can buy it loose, it does work and, as Steve suggested, you can use as sock to to make a bigger packet. If I'm not mistaken, I thing you can get it in a pharmacy.

Better apologise again... last time I looked Paul didn't have a blonde sticking a head out his window!
(...oh sugar... seems to be the required response).

If you go to the caravaning section in Woodies or B&Q, you can get these large plastic boxes which contain a moisture absorbing gel or pellets - these are usually good for a few months at a time, depending on how much damp there is and how big they are.
I've had a small one lodged down behind the soft top between it and the hard top just to keep moisture levels at bay.
