hmmmm mine needs changing too, and my mechanic, who's worked really well and cheaply on my roadster for years is quoting €500. Is he after turning horrible on me?

Clutch replacement - mk1

Postby Rebelbloke » Thu, 23 Jun 2011 11:49 +0000

Hmm, however good those instructions are I dont think I'll be chancing a DIY job! 120 seems v good for clutch. I just bought one on autolink along with a spigot bearing (which apparently should be changed along with clutch) - €140 ish including postage & VAT. Now just to get it fitted!

Update re clutch replacement. Had new clutch (bought from Autolink) fitted last week. Feels great - much sharper esp having been used to the old slippy one! Only problem is a rattling/grating noise starts above 2500 rpm which only eases when I depress the clutch or ease off the throttle. Looked around a few other forums and seems that this is a problem with the particular brand of clutches bought from Autolink. Am bringing the car back to the mechanic tomorrow in the hope they can fix it as it's pretty annoying esp at motorway speed as it is constantly there.

Anyone on here had a similar problem or been able to fix this? Hopefully the mechanics will sort it but will have to wait and see.
