non Mx5 engine question

Guys

hope you can help with some suggestions here:-

My bro has an automatic Mitsubishi Space Wagon and has just replaced the engine. In order to do so he had to remove the previously perfectly working gear box.

Job has been done but he has a problem now in that the gears are not engaging.

Now, some of you will know, I'm not the most mechanically minded, but have you any suggestions before he forks out for a mechanic?

many thanks

Shena

Was the engine replaced by a mechanic?? If so, surely they'd be in a position to put it right?? If not, then a mechanic is likely to plan a world cruise on the price of rectifying someones bodge..sorry, can't be of any further use Shena.

no, a mechanic didn't make the swap. My bro is technically minded and has checked the obvious of the lever alignment and oil. Was just hoping someone on here might be able to shed some light or have come across this before to save him the round trip, this is the second engine in 12 months and he is not a happy puppy .. nor rich!

Thanks anyway

I'd triple check the fluid level.. they can take alot.
I take it the cable is adjusted too?

Thanks Steve, he reckons there is loads of Oil but is also hearing a relay clicking sound when moving the gear lever when ignition is on. Could this be electrical?

I am really trying to avoid him having to get a mechanic here, he's spent nearly 2k on this bucket already keeping her on the road.
