Bit of a hassle finding the one i wanted without being robbed. Trawled all the breaker sites and finally got the one i wanted from a wrecked 2003 model with shaft included for ............75 euro!!!!!!! Went to Monaghan in the 5 to collect it but was'nt told it was still in the complete rear sub-frame. The top ally support was broken hence the low price but the ppf frame was a bitch to get free.
Anyways.......ill keep adding pics as the job develops.
The later type 2 torsen addressed all the problems of the earlier type 1. i.e......one wheel loses all grip......yer fecked. The type 2 has washers for preload to stop this happening so its a true lsd. Same as Honda s2000 i think?







The diff came from a 2003 6 speed so the final drive ratio is 3.63-1 which is way wrong for the green meany. Ill be swapping over my crown wheel and pinion when i get some free time.

Will you need to set backlash/shims etc?

ill use my own Steve if only because i dont have a crown wheel and pinion to suit. Not worried about setting it up as i have done loads when the locals had twin cam corrollas and kept smashing them. 0.004" is what works well. Its like new when i cleaned it , seals good, bearings perfect. Was a low mileage car too.

Started to strip out the diff today. Bitch of a job as shafts were seized solid in hubs and got fed up taking pictures. Got diff out, new one in housing using my c/w and pinion and set up. New one piece shafts were rusted where they meet hub seal so will swap out both outer cv joints at the w/e. Old torsen is for sale, its perfect and will fit all 94 on cars (1. and any mk2's.Ill throw it on the for sale section with a pic when i get a chance.

Diff back in car.......went for a spin , threw her "sideways and BANG! No drive.....WTF.......stripped driver side shaft out and it had sheared on the c clip end. ??????? Stripped the new shafts of the outer cv joints as they were rusted on seal lands and the hub nuts were a bigger thread .......did'nt have the nuts, so put my old outer cv joints on the new shafts. Prblem was caused by c clip failing allowing cv joint to move outwards on shaft and thus shearing it.Lesson........go by the book and fit new c clips every time. Anyways, the green meanie is far nicer now as the type 2 is locking earlier and more progressively albeit graunchy when doing 3 point turns..........ha, me doing 3 point turns.....never, 4000rpm 1/4 lock and round she goes. The old one is probably nicer day to day for less experienced drivers but more fun when you need it to PLAY. Anyways, i have a 2003 rear end now.
So if anyone says you dont need an LSD...........BOLLIX. They make a huge difference.
