Fuel System Problem

Postby Mx5Mk1Nut » Fri, 31 Jul 2015 4:34 +0000

Hi,
I've a 93 Jap Import 1.8. The fuel pump is good, tested with a battery and it runs. When I jump the FP & Gnd points in the diag box it stays dead, tested connector to fuel pump with a multimeter a n got a 0.00 reading, I got a reading at the connector to the relay. I checked the relay (B755) with battery and could hear it click, I then checked the relay (B6S8) in the fuse box under the hood, no clicking. I then jumped the points there, got a lot of clicking from the engine and the pump relay (FP & Gnd jumped), I then retested the connector into the pump and I got a reading of 6.44V (& 7.7V on the gauge terminals, which was also showing before I jumped the B6S8 relay, but the pump will still not come to life (I'm assuming not enough V). I jumped the points with a paper clip, which may have too much resistance (1.4ohms)? (Novice, and learning as I go).

Also, while checking for continuity in the fuel pump wire (blue, red stripe)with multi, I found none, but then with B6S8 jumped I got a V reading?????

ECU looks fine, no sign of water damage, selotape on it from when I had it tested 8yrs ago still there and in perfect condition as if put on yesterday, carpet padding behind it is bone dry.

If not relays, in the back of my mind, could it be a dodgy immobiliser (had it installed with central locking and alarm when I got the car).

I've had the car for 11yrs and hope to have it for another 111yrs!

Any help and suggestions would be appreciated!
