Starting then cutting out and will not restart issue

Hi I have a 92 mk1 1.6.

It normally starts first turn of the key but sometime it then cuts out and will not start again for a few hours. If i go back to it after a few hours its will start again first turn of the key. If I rev it on startup until its up to temp it doesn't cut out . It drives normally when it's going.

It's like the fuel pump is getting cut off or something like that, has anyone come across anything like this before, any ideas where to start looking for the fault.

Cheers.

Will it turn over but not catch when you try to restart?
Sounds like it might be flooding? Pull out a spark plug and see if there is fuel in the cylinder.

You can test if its the fuel pump not running by grounding the fuel pump pin in the diagnostics box (put a paperclip between the gnd and fp pins) like this :
