Differences between 1.8 and 1.6?

Postby tazdogue » Wed, 02 Feb 2011 1:10 +0000

Firstly, hello to one and all. :D
Long time on the fence but this is my first time posting.
I am currently looking at a 1.6l 1998 but have also seen a 2000 1.8l which would also be within the budget. Both are similar in mileage.
I just taught id throw it out there for an opinion with those in the know?
Is there much of a difference between the 1.6l and the 1.8l consumption wise, performance wise?
Any opinion would be greatly appreciated.

1.8 has more power 140-145 bhp, bigger brakes on most and also some come with 6 speed boxes(with LSD and ABS) which give them better gearing too. Fuel economy wont be much different but tax/ins will but they are better(1.8). Also the 99-00 ones have the most tuneable engine (BP4W with VICS).
The perfection of a Car's beauty is that nothing should be there for beauty's sake.
