need rear calipers in cork area! kind of urgent!

Postby shadowhearth » Tue, 01 Feb 2011 4:12 +0000

First of all sorry for posting here, but its urgent for me. Hi to all again, as i havent been on for awile! :(

Got car to mechanic, and he said that bouth rear calipers are useless. they were not workin properly for awilw now. He called to dealer and was told 350eu per each!!!

As much as i understand mk1/mk2 are same brakes and calipers? So i could get them off some mk1 too?

If anyone got for sale a set of in co. cork or surrounding county give me a call please! 0851414569!

I found caliper in mx5parts.co.uk, they do reconditioned ones, which looks a good deal, but i dont understand they way it works, do they refund 35 quid of 110 quid? or do they charge you 140++ quid, and refund 35 when you give you old ones?

http://www.mx5parts.co.uk/product_info. ... cts_id/380

any help would be awesome, as i need to get car back on track as soon as posible, misses is using it daily for work! :(

they are probably seized on the pins with all the snow, grit, salt on the roads lately and can probably be freed up. Doubt if they are shagged altogether and mechanics dont want the hassle of doing this type of work now. Everything is just replace......... maybe someone down there will do it for you lad.Too far for moi....

I'd take Fergus up on that offer mate, helped me out loads in the past. May well just be seized up and could be free up or rebuilt.

Plus, worst case is they just need to be rebuilt - less than 18 euro a side.

Mx5Parts where else
They have rebuild kits for both the 1.6 and 1.8 calipers :D

Although if the caliper isn't 'leaking' brake fluid then it probably just needs to be cleaned ! It's usually just the piston that needs to be cleaned up a bit.

And on the other hand, if a 'so-called' mechanic (aka cowboy) says it's FUBAR'd then that mechanic probably DIDN'T KNOW about the allen screw bolt at the back of the caliper
