clutch fluid reservoir empty??

Postby leamyj » Sun, 06 Nov 2011 12:20 +0000

As above, went out to drop off one of the kids last night, gear changes almost impossible. Lifted bonnet this morning..reservoir empty. Where did the fluid go? no sign of spillage ( at least not a full reservoir amount..or could it have seeped out over time? Procedure for re-filling..anything to watch out for? Specification of fluid?? A full check may have to wait until next year!!

I'd say its your slave leaking, up under the drivers wheel I believe. Refill and bleed like you would the brakes, get a new seal kit for them or a replacement slave cylinder in the long term.

Get the wheel off and have a look first. Look under dust cover/boot on the slave. If it leaking there will be signs of fluid there.

the spurious slave cylinders are not worth the money.

When i used to use them they lasted for about 2 years before the seals went again.

The oem mazda one lasts for 60k miles ...its worth doing the maths.

most spurious parts are usually ok but there are somethings you need to stick with genuine mazda parts - thermostats , rad caps, trackrod ends, camcover gaskets and slave cylinders.
thats just me tho :alien:

+1 on the trackrods, the pattern ones I got off Autolink were cr@p. The rubber boots were perished within 6 months. The paint had fallen off after 8 months also.

tbh , autolink is often more expensive for new oem / spurious parts than mazda / mx5parts or a local motorfactors

andys a nice guy and he really goes the extra mile ...but ive gradually bought less and less off him over the years as his prices have gone up and up.

Ever since sftmx5parts was sold to david manners group , there isnt the same aggressive pricing between autolink vs mx5 parts that sft used to.

example - i needed a pair of front mk2 drop links - autolink were looking £50 odd for suprious
mazda wanted £78 for oem
i picked up a pair at local motor factors for £18 - blueprint / ADL branded
