CCTV where the car is parked with a sign on the car saying cctv in operation, even a fake camera might do the trick, they are very cheap. You could also buy a cheap wirelss camera (Mounted on the dash each night) with/without a motion sensor transmitting back to a computer/laptop-Again a sign on the car saying "Smile, your on camera".
I think that even a hint they might be caught on camera would stop them?

Nope. We had three incidents in last couple of months and two times the scumbags actually waved to the camera as they were coming in, easily seen their faces, not even pulled down their hoodies. They did run though when a guy whose car they broke into heard them and went out after them Frank-style. My perception is that they feel as if nothing can happen to them if they get caught later by Garda and there's might be a good reason for them feeling like that. They do however, at least some of them, fear of the owners but it might be risking checking that out sometimes.

I think thats the bast way to do it.

Very little will stop these scumbags, there not afraid of the garda or anything! Its hard to deffer these kinds of people away....

Which brings me back to the shotgun point. Make sure its loaded.

In relation to space, anyone contemplating getting the removable steering wheel should be aware that when you fit the new boss, your wheel will end up nearer to you because the adapter increases the length of the steering column..exactly by how much I don't know. You could e-mail mx5parts and ask them.

- Clifford alarm and immobiliser combo - EUR1000 fitted in Dublin, or EUR600 fitted in the UK (including ferry trip !!!!)
- GPS-GSM tracking device (it'll also TXT you when the alarm is triggered)

Your existing alarm and immob may well be 'okay' - it'll need most scumbags to get your keys before they get the car. The Clifford lets the car run for 30 seconds before killing engine, so it lets you hand over the keys if you're being theatened - the thief takes off thinking he's in the clear, but then has to abandon the car after all the lights and sirens go nuts - and the engine cuts out. Shock and awe :)

You should be able to get a Clifford 650 fitted in Dublin for around €600 - €700. I got one fitted outside Dublin but cannot recommend the installer.

Car security .. best solutions?

Good god, I just read this thread..crazy! I concur john.. Frank is most def 'mx5 superhero' mad mc mad. Good on ya for making an attempt to stop them.. Might at least make em think twice before they try it again, scumbags is actually too nice a word however this has made me think of upping my security assuming my dog doesn't get them first. Btw, wat wud the law think of scumbag driver being hit by owner wit crowbar.. Owner get done for it whilst scumbag gets probation and lawsuit?

My Son had his car lifted last saturday night. Had a top spec Clifford alarm fitted. They winched the car onto a trailer. Alarm immobiliser my hole................ his heart is broken.......spent thousands on that car.

Ah Sean, that's f*cking awful...it really has gone bad what with all the reports recently of car theft...Whatever about us auld fellas having a car lifted, the trauma must be even worse for a young lad who obviously loved- and lived for- his motor .

Very sorry to hear that. Did he have the proximity sensor on the Clifford? If so im going to put a big "Automatic Gearbox" sign on the car.
