who's telling you to change the oil?.. the oil in the gearbox isnt going to give you a lower biting point.. and its not going to cause crunching unless there isnt enough oil in it.. the way you're going you'll have spent as much on oil as it would cost you to get a second hand 5 speed.. so just go onto http://www.autolinkmx5.com/clutch-slave ... 5-62-p.asp and buy it.. it'll take about half an hour to an hour to fit it due to its location

follow this http://www.mx5oc.co.uk/forum/forums/t/200.aspx

the people on here know what they're talking about.. most of us have had these cars in boxes and back together again.. i only just changed the slave cylinder on my own car.. if that fails you, you can rub it in all our faces..

Just think before you post and it'll make everything way more enjoyable for you.. We're here to help!!!

Going back to basic's maybe there is air in the cylinder.Might just need to be bled out if it's not actually leaking as you said.Sometimes its hard to bleed it as master cylinder has not enough pressure to push out all the air .I have a spare master cylinder cap 'drilled out and fitted with standard tyre valve pushed in to cap.Just screw on the cap and get airline connected
and open bleed nipple on slave cylinder and all air squirts out handy 'but make sure to keep resovoir full of fliud.

  1. first of all i am changing the slave cylinde, i only get a low biting point when the weather is freezing
  2. the gearbox oil was recomonded by mx5nutz and miata.net so that is why i thought changing it would be a better option (before i relised i needed a slave
  3. the whole thing about a new gearbox came from autocheck (the car had an easy life lady owner)
  4. really the slave dosnt have enough pressure to push air out  (please explain)

pump pedal a few times, hold it down, loosen bleed nipple till air/fluid is expelled. Repeat until all the air is expelled. You will need someone to help you.
Fact that you may have to do this means cylinder seals are fucked.

Check for fluid around the cylinder, under the booth.....if its there you need a cylinder...

Check inside the car behind the clutchPEDAL as the master cylinder might also be leaking but into car on to carpet behind pedal'but you would be loosing the fluid level. If the fluid is thickening when freezing maybe you need to use a better quality (not lidl/aldi) .Good. quality like Castrol\Girling/Bardahl etc.
