![]() Re: What did you do to your MX5 today ?Hi Quigs, I was PMing you about the BBS wheels the other day. I see what you mean about going for a retro theme on the interior. I love Revlimiter's dials, I'll have to get a set a some stage. Are they easy to install and change the position of the needle?
![]() Re: What did you do to your MX5 today ?Hi Kev, considering that I am a mechanical moron who has never so much as changed a flat tyre and picked up this car to try change that fact then yes, I would say it was pretty straightforward.
Its easy enough to get the cluster out, a dozen or so screws. The dials themselves are easy. There was a little bit of fiddling with a snips to cut away some plastic surrounds inside to eliminate dark spots when lit up (followed the instructions on the revlimiter site)... painting the needles was alright too.. just scrape the paint off the back and a thin coat or two of model paint, or in my case, a chip pen kit. Putting the needles on was easy for the speed needle because you just needed to put it to zero... all the rest I did with the engine running including the rev counter, again easy because it has a stopper on it and I had noted what my normal idle rpm was beforehand. I have the fake oil pressure monitor so I know where that is supposed to be, as well as the water temp once the car is warmed up. The hard part for me was the steel surround. I had to separate the glass from the cluster cover by warming it up with a hairdryer where it was glued and then pulling it apart with a screwdriver. I cracked the glass in a few places, but only minor and right at the edges so when I put the cover back on it was not visible.
Re: What did you do to your MX5 today ?Pricey though for the Dial's. Worth it though for the service. The guy is brilliant to deal with. Very professional. I got double hit on cost... missed customs but because I wanted the gauges in white they were a full custom job which cost nearly double.
Next stop, trying to either find original mk1 tan leather (or black seats) and then matching door card materials. Or find someone to fix the tiny bit of wear on my Mk2 beige seats and find an exact fabric match to change the lower half of the door cards to suit the rest. Proving difficult, possible yes, but might be easier to just try to find the original Tan seats and get the matching cards from Robert. After that its a set of wheels (BBS style or similar), maybe a hardtop and thats it. Unless someone gets me thinking about engine improvements. This is like a sickness.
Re: What did you do to your MX5 today ?Installed wide arches and ordered an MS2. Excitement +10. only a few turbo buts left to order!
Re: What did you do to your MX5 today ?I discovered a few weeks ago the antiroll bar bracket on my 1999 mk2 with less than 46000 miles had pulled away from the passenger side rear wishbone, leaving a big rusty hole. When I went to fix it back in place I discovered more holes
![]() and ![]() I decided to get the full rear set from Autocheck ,they arrived on Wednesday. So today I cleaned and painted all the bits and set about replacing the left one. I had been spraying Tec7 penetrating oil on the long bolt for the last few evenings so I got it rotating with nothing more than my standard torque wrench. I had it changed and the car mobile by 3.30pm. Then I decided to jack up the other side and loosen the long bolt,-which I had also been spraying- in preparation for another day's work, when I found this big frown ![]() So I continued unscrewing and had the whole job finished by 6 o'clock. When tidying up I found this scary rust hole ![]() at the wrist area of the wishbone that I thought was the good one. I've had this car from new for 16 years and this is the first rust related work I've had to carry out. Last edited by TOM 5252 on Sun, 05 Jul 2015 5:02 +0000, edited 1 time in total.
