excellent, I must send in "d'form" too

Is it just a case of filling in the "other" box with "vintage" ?

111 i think is the form number, name, address, make and model etc, also insurance details as its being taxed at the same time.
Ya, in the other box i put vintage /veteran. Nice lady in the County Council office did the swap with no problems. For some reason i thought the date of first registration was around march, how stupid is it to confuse 03/1/93 with 01/3/93,might be a case for a visit to specsavers or back to primary school

I think you do need to call in, they keep the vlc and send out a new one with the vintage classification on it. I just got mine in the post today

Nice work, I've just fitted another set of engine mounts in the last couple of weeks, very fiddly on the passenger side but doable if you remove the intake manifold support and slide it out towards the front of the engine.

where did you jack the engine from ? gear box or sump ?

anyone know what size pipe cut I need to remove the bushes with ? im going for the threaded bar removal method

jacked it up from the sump with a wide inch thick piece of wood between the jack and sump.

No update on the mx5 but got another zoom zoom Mazda in the family. Just a run about for herself and the mini boss. Its a sharp enough little thing and the 86 horses are plenty fun for scooting around the backroads. reminds me of my old K12 micra from my dole days.

till undecided on the decals, will probably keep tho.

some update over the last few weeks:

Engine mounts done. Pretty straight forward, one of the nuts very hard to get at on drivers side, also lots of wiggle to get the new mount in and lined up with the plate on the pass side. Old mounts didn't 'look' too bad coming out but one was pretty soft and easy to bend.

I had to break out every extension bar in the shed for drivers side

I also have a long term sump leak that a rogue garage helicoiled at some stage. I put this job off for years. highway to the danger one was playing in my head on repeat while doing it. So as a last resort i retapped the sump out to M15 with a M14-M15 sump repair kit, very carefully to caught swarf with some grease on the tap and flushed a couple of liters of old oil afterward. the angle was very awkward to line up and i may have been off by a smidge off line although im sure taps should self center . And then its still got a wee weap !!!! some of the repair kit reviewed mentioned the washers were crap too. Hopefully just that. il have to get some better crush washers or some sealant, PTFE tap definitely does not work. I also saw some old school Toyota washers that have a rubber inner, may try those. I don't intend on pulling the engine out any time soon.

As for the suspension bushes. I also have the driver side front suspension fully stripper last night. Wishbones are a bit crusty in sports, not sure if they will clean up ok or need replacing, the grinder will decide. I will go ahead and replaced all the ball joints, tie rod ends, drop links and bushing etc. there all 24yrs old , The ABS sensor wasn't coming off the hub knuckle so i removed it from the loom side and left it attached to hub, the ball joints were a bugger to break & the upper arm needed a scaffolding pole too break nuts, nothing broke off tho only a couple of screw from the ABS sensor& bracket. il clean up the arms and may coat with POR15 or similar.

Finally I also got a single wheel to test fit, my fav wheels of all time. I wanted these on my e36 so so bad when the cost an absolute fortune in the 2000s as 1990s old stock,. I don't think they will suit the MX5 and are pretty heavy about 9kg, but I will happily put it on wall otherwise as an ornament, might look great on the ground will have to wait awhile and see. Classic Borbet Type A deep , these are new original stock, seem to be in production again in 4x100 15" 7J i think,

Lots of work to do, your idea of using a Toyota sump washer isn't bad but they have been fibre washers for as long as I remember, if you want to try a copper/rubber type of washer have a look for one from a opel, I got one in local motor factors not too long ago, it was a plug&washer set.
Some great pictures there, that wheel on the car looks great

Found the one I got, it came with the plug and two washers, one copper and one copper/rubber which is the one I needed for a opel
