Changed the cas o ring to stop all my expensive oil leaving the engine. Removed some of the heat shield that was buzzing and swapped my bypass pipe back to a cat!!!! must be getting old but just didn't like all the noise any more. only problem is i can hear all the rattles again now!!! Also figured out what i need to do to make my interior light (which is now on a auto delay timer) to switch off straight away when the ignition is switched on. Been having issues with it coming on when i hit large potholes and it blinding me for 13 secs till it goes off. Any one know of a easy to get at ignition switched circuit in the boot? Thinking the electric aerial or the sub power lead or heated rear window cable.

Got up early and decided to tackle 2 jobs. The first one was to replace the fan belt that became detached (or should that be dismembered) last Saturday on the way to the tech day . My mechanical skills are somewhere between rusty and fair, so the prospect of this job was a bit daunting. As some of you will know, Paschal and myself were unable to open the hinge nut on the PS unit when we were trying to do a quick fix outside Halfords in Naas last week. On Steve's advice I gave ALL relevant nuts a good WD40-ing during the week, and it worked a treat. In the space of an hour and 15 mins I managed to remove the outer belt, fit the inner one and replace the outer one again, tighten all up , refit whatever airflow components I had to take out for access and fire her up..SUCCESS!! running fine now, no squeal or smell of burning rubber, but will probably have to do further remedial work on the alternator or alternator pulley..I suspect that my problems may stem from a corroded pully. The 2nd job, which I originally had earmarked for the tech day was the installation of an external temperature display. Thanks to a link from Mr Cheatley I got a unit from HongKong : The first step was to remove one of the switch blanks at the drivers door: Seperate the two parts: tackle with a file to get this end result: not a bad days work

top man, clean the rust off the pulley halves and it will be fine.

brought the little green beauty out for a blast on the back roads to clear out the winter FLEM from her wee lungs and man did we smile. Met Cloggy, and followed him to Port Beach for some kite surfing but alas poor yorick, there was no wind.He has his fleece now tho so happy days.

Thanks Seán, there's a sh*t load of crap on the alternator housing and engine block as a result of the wearing away of the belt(s)..will I do any harm if I power-hose it all away with the engine running???

Today we fitted some Corbeau Forza 2000 seats, race harnesses, re-sealed the rear window & replaced the bulbs in the dash.
That was on the track car.
Mine? A damn good clean, ready for the trip to your fair isle tomorrow!

Yesterday fresh oil and filter... Wash and polish (after seen some of the photos lately I was feel bad when I saw my MX in the sunlight). Then today got an old shed cleaned out and so I might store the car in out of the BAD weather... It's a tight fit, but it's in and should be protected from most of the weather. So all in all the weekend was car based...

Fitted these today to the footwells. Had been looking for something to brighten the interior at night and I am a bit long in the tooth for neon lights. These did the trick, 2 strips of 9 Leds on a narrow strip which can be easily stuck to the underside of the dash (sticky backing supplied). Took the power from the panel lights at the back of the heater controls. I went for the amber ones, nice glow, not too bright...just right http://cgi.ebay.ie/BMW-MINI-ONE-JOHN-CO ... 179wt_1165

Last weekend I took of the 15x5 alloys and put on the skinnier Daisies. The drive to work this morning in the rain was interesting, to say the least! Maybe it's the narrower tyre, the slightly higher tyre pressure (running 30psi), or just the greasy roads, but the car definitely didn't feel as planted as usual.
Off to the Tax office at lunch to get her officially back on the road, got the RF100 stamped last night, hopefully we'll get some clear weather now!
