taxed her today for 6mths and went for a blast around the local coast road. going like a clock with new ht leads, plugs and headlight vent. response appears greatly improved.

Installed a Limited Slip Diff with big help from Mike and Kieran yesterday.

You should see some of the stuff he has hidden away ;-)
Image

Pulled his drift MX5 out and dropped out the diff in a few hours.

Image

Then set about dropping out the open diff in mine and discovered issues.. mine are ABS axles .. and the ones from the drift car weren't ABS.. to transfer the toothed ring we'd need a press. We didn't have a press.

Image

So.. we went with kieran's idea and converted the ABS axles to stub axles instead.
Image

Image

They fell apart on us a few times but we eventually got them together.
So, out with the old diff, then in with the new.. except.. we had to remove the exhaust, braces.. etc, then couldn't align the diff on the PPF, then couldn't find one of the collars that fit in the PPF for the bolts.. we nearly gave up at this stage as it was 9pm.. and we only had one head lamp to work with.. eventually we found the collar and fairly flukely got it to line up (pheeeww!).

Image

Eventually got it together and finished up at 11.. home at 1:10am.. I really really hope I don't ever have to do this job again.

All ready to go into the booth, bar a couple of things: need to get windscreen out (see separate post.....), and the pop-up lid covers....sweet and gentle god, what's with the screws ??

Feels the same in daily driving (apart from a little chatter on slow full lock turns), it definitely puts the power down a lot better when accelerating out of corners, the inner wheel spin is gone, had one "whoah" moment so far. I need to find a wet empty car park to learn what it can do + keep me out of the hedges.

Ah come on...

Do you not see the people on the footpath noticing the new upgrade ? That's why they're heads are turning when you drive past.

"wow, tricked out diff"

"class ! bet there's no stub axles on that"
It's a small world after all. It's a small, small world
