Costly Respray Jobs

Postby gunners5 » Wed, 03 Dec 2008 4:14 +0000

Hi guys haven't loged on in a while as i have been busy with work and the usual crap but,i have purchased a few bodyparts for the car over the last few weeks and have been asking about a few places to see what the quotes would be like to get the entire car done as it pisses me off when i look and can see scratches and minor stonechips, dents.
The following quotes are based on me stripping, helping to prep and rebuilding car afterwards;one was 1800,1500,1400 and finally 1300.Now the one at 1800 does nice work but,i think its just to much for such a small car and me doing vast majority of work.
So what would you do shop around more or name a price and stick to it.What would be a reasonable price?

Had mine done for around the 1300e figure (incl hardtop) a couple of years ago, I did the disassembly and reassembly. Its time consuming but easy.
Am v.happy with the job they did.

emm..
Front lights/indicators,
mirrors,
door handles,
window to door trim,
silver door edge trim,
mud flaps front + rear,
wing indicators,
rear lights,
side bumper reflectors,
rear underbumper lip,
rear badges,
licence plates,
rear hardtop trim,
removed the spoiler (had the holes in the boot lid welded + painted)
taped up some of the window surrounds + hardtop chrome catches,
removed fuel filler door,
Headlights + headlight lids,
Bonnet windscreen washers.
Rear 3rd brake light in bootlid,
Boot key lock,

Think thats it.. the door locks + window to door trim were the most time consuming.
Will post a pic later

Right. As you say not necessarily difficult but you'd be kept going

Steve, that sounds like a very reasonable price you got there as paint, lacquer and masking gear comes to around 500quid as i want an extra coat of lacquer applied.
I was also thinking of taking off the bumpers.boot, bonnet and kickplates as while they are off i can waxoyl nearly every vulnerable place. Also, with the new aquabase paints they need to bake them a while longer at around 60-65degrees celsius for around 45 minutes.hope the interior would hold up.
But,thats all the hard work stripping and prepping, painting is a piece of piss you just have to be neat and tidy and use to the application of the paint.
